About this artwork
For the past year, I've been developing a series of paintings about summer—not just as a season, but as a sensitive and mental space. For me, summer is a suspended moment, bathed in light, warmth, and hazy memories, where perceptions expand and time seems to slow down.
Each canvas in this series is made in oil on raw linen canvas, a medium I chose for its organic texture and its resonance with the materials of summer, sand, skin, textiles, sun.… The raw linen sometimes lets its weave show through, like a memory visible beneath the paint, and dialogues with the voids, transparencies or superimposed layers.
Through this series, I explore intimate landscapes, fragments of scenes, and saturated atmospheres. Color plays a central role: it evokes the softness of a blazing sun, the freshness of a shadow, or the vibration of air filled with heat.
Originally from Medellín and based in Paris since 1979, Clara Ramírez Katz made a transition from textile creation (ENSAAMA, ESMOD) to visual arts and was trained by Jean Bertholle at the Académie de Saint-Roch.
Her career has been marked by major collaborations with galleries in Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Bastille district. She was selected for the Salon de Montrouge in 2005. She also participated in the 2017 Colombia-France Year.
After ten years of representation by the Couteron Gallery (2010-2020), the artist is now opening the doors of her studio. There, she continues her research at the boundary between abstraction and figuration, recently focusing on a personal reinterpretation of Mont Sainte-Victoire, an iconic subject of Western modernity.
