About this artwork
This atmospheric oil painting captures the mysterious mood of a wooded area. In the foreground, a narrow stream meanders through the wooded landscape, its mirror-smooth surface reflecting the surrounding trees and the bright sky. The banks are lined with rich, dark green, forming a stark contrast to the shimmering water. Slender tree trunks in various shades of gray and brown rise on either side of the stream, their crowns disappearing into the upper… edge of the painting. The foliage is depicted in delicate, impressionistic brushstrokes in various shades of green, lending the forest a vibrant, airy quality. In the background, sunlight breaking through the foliage blurs the trees into a misty veil, creating a sense of depth. This subtle use of light reinforces the dreamy, almost mystical atmosphere of the work.
Claudia Luethi, alias Abdelghafar, is a painter and draftsman trained in Zurich and London, working primarily with oil on canvas and velvet. She combines realistic, impressionistic, and expressionist styles, using layered techniques to create a fascinating, almost lifelike 3D effect. She deliberately avoids preliminary drawings to allow her creativity to flow freely. Her works capture the soul of animals with a masterful eye and transport viewers to a positive, colorful world where time and everyday life disappear.
