About this artwork
Produced over a period of a few months, this work is essentially based on the interplay of colours, shapes and shades.
Thickly applied brushstrokes and the untouched canvas, which is visible in places, shift between hints and unresolved structures, suggesting a representational quality that ultimately remains unfulfilled.
« All art is just transformation within the boundaries of self-referentiality. »
Claudio Scotoni is an artist based in Switzerland whose paintings have been exhibited both nationally and in Germany. He describes his artistic process as originating from the "first movement", which is a reflex and can oftentimes be a fight for spontaneity. For Scotoni, this movement can be born as a result of a phrase or of an impression that tempts him into translating it into something visible. In his art, the starting point is much more important than the process.
