About this artwork
The triptych "We" was inspired by the ballet "Winter Journey" by choreographer Christian Spuck.
My inspiration comes from movement as a symbol of life energy.
Silhouettes improvise a strange dance for us. They recall ancient bas-reliefs. They seem to pass an invisible object from hand to hand. Like the secret of life that we would all like to know.
These bodies share an almost sacred common moment. They experience the motto of La Comédie Française… "Simul et singulis": we are at the same time all the same and at the same time totally singular.
The movements are described with an economy of colors for a “white on white” rendering. The dark color of the background of the canvas is found at the tip of the knife.
"We" is a triptych (three canvases of 120x40, 120x100cm and 120x80cm (a total of 120x220cm)
« It seems to me that art must serve the purpose of connecting human beings by allowing singularities and creation. Being together while remaining oneself. »
Corinne Malfreyt is an award-winning French artist who has exhibited her works nationally, as well as in China, Kuwait, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The major theme in her paintings is dance, as a symbol of movement. Another phase of Malfreyt's compositions relates to movement that is frozen in memories, reminiscences, and retinal persistence. In her creative process, she allows herself to be guided by varying thicknesses of sand, finishing with oils and emphasizing the rhythms of intervals between characters.
