About this artwork
Beaches on Capri are rare. There aren't many, but the small bay near the Faraglioni, the mighty rocks that rise out of Capri's sea, is peaceful. The bathers, who had just been in large numbers in the sea, have retreated to shady spots by midday, taking a siesta. The sea laps around the rocks lining the beach and then recedes into the depths.
In her Capri series, the artist reverses the viewer's gaze, presenting the island in unusual perspectives… that evoke spontaneous emotions. It is both raw and beautiful, simplicity and complexity. The painting, with its size, has a strong spatial presence as a standalone work. It can be combined or hung with a second painting from the series. The two paintings were created at the same time.
