About this artwork
In this piece, I explore the quiet strength of being able to bend. Much like the willow tree, these forms arch and curve in response to life’s winds, not with resistance, but with deep, rooted grace.
Each swirling canopy is a network of change, the branches of experience, the veins of growth, the pathways of memory. Life hands us different seasons, and like these trees, I’ve learned to adapt, to move with what comes while staying anchored in what… matters most.
The trunks, painted with layers of color, tell the story of time, the way life leaves its mark, not as damage, but as depth. They lean toward one another, mirroring how we often find balance in relationship, in reflection, in mutual understanding.
This work is a visual mantra: stay rooted, stay flexible. Let yourself sway without breaking. There is elegance in yielding, and great power in softness.
Crystal Michielsen, self-taught, uses pyrography on birch plywood, bringing the medium to life in India. Her style incorporates mixed media, intertwining acrylics, ink, and bister with rich hues, as she articulates symbolic narratives using organic lines offered by the wood. Crystal's work is an exploration of the mystical, as she deftly transports viewers beyond the tangible, into unseen spiritual worlds. Her art's emotive power lies in its alluring invitation to pause, observe and journey within, offering respite through a captivating amalgamation of the ordinary and sacred.
