About this artwork
In this work 'first snow', I explored the serenity and beautifully silent isolation of the first blanket of snow that covers the wild and immense forest. Using oils, I captured the soft yet oppressive texture of the snow that envelops the landscape and from which we see a few cautious wild boars emerge, ready to cross the path and continue their journey. This painting is not just a representation, it is an invitation to feel the calm, the immensity… and the renewal that the first snow brings. Looking at it, one can almost feel the biting cold in the air and hear the crunch of the snow under the animals' feet.
A self-taught artist with a passion for nature, Schaef uses painting to express his affections. Employing instinctive and spontaneous techniques, he boldly blends vibrant hues to paint maritime and forest scenes, as well as abstract images. Schaef seeks to instill both enthusiasm through the figurative aspects of his works, while distilling a touch of mysticism into his abstract creations.
