About this artwork
in this painting the theme is vulnerability of women and the courage to show what happened to them through this vulnerability.
The power of the metoo movement is that you stand strong together and you dare to say what happened to you without the victim being blamed and the ultimate perpetrator being tried in a favorable case.
There is also a lot of pain when as a victim of sexual abuse you are not heard or are blamed by your environment, often the… victim blaming hurts even more, I speak from experience myself.
The attention it is getting now is very important but we are not there yet, vulnerability is a strength and daring to show that takes courage.
This painting is also for all those women who no longer have a voice but have suffered from sexual and transgressive behavior, and for all women who do not dare to speak out and for all women who had the courage and strength to speak out.
I am a great admirer of the artist Aline Thomassen and Marlene Dumas.
« I evoke the feeling of going into the mystery of nature, being absorbed in its space, until nothing else matters anymore. »
