About this artwork
The pear tree, which gives people wonderful fruits, was known to our ancestors three millennia BC. The Chinese were the discoverers of the beneficial properties of these beautiful fruits. They not only sang the pear in poetry, but also carried out a great selection work so that many varieties known to this day were born.
The pear in China is a symbol of longevity. The reason for this was the amazing vitality of the pear tree, the average life span… of which is about a hundred years. The beautiful pear blossom symbolizes not only beauty in China, but also sadness and fickleness.
In ancient Greece, the pear also enjoyed well-deserved respect. Homer called it the food of the gods. The pear tree was dedicated to Hera - the wife of Zeus, the keeper of the hearth. Figurines of the goddess were carved from its wood. The shape of the pear among the Greeks, and not only among them, was associated with love and motherhood.
