About this artwork
Becoming Visible reflects my exploration of how inner states take form and become presence. In this painting, I work with the tension between what remains hidden and what insists on coming into light. It is about entering one’s own skin fully, without apology, and revealing layers of the self that are usually silent but essential. Through this piece, I seek to show that visibility is not decoration but a process of transformation — a movement where… the unconscious becomes matter, and matter becomes identity.
I hope this work can serve as a reminder that allowing ourselves to be seen — in all our depth and imperfection — is not a risk, but a form of strength.
Technique and Materials
Stretched canvas on wooden frame. Plaster with reinforcing additive, fabric, acrylic paints and pigments. The surface is sealed with a protective glossy varnish with a wet stone effect.
Daria Luhova is a Ukrainian artist and designer who defines her practice as tactile surrealism. Her art is a journey through memory, dreams, and the unconscious, fixing images, feelings, and bodily sensations. Luhova’s works reflect a deep, non-rational reality and create inner landscapes that resonate on an intuitive level, where the reliefs seem to absorb the viewer, turning perception into a physical experience. She works with plastered fabric on canvas, where the resistance of the material and the trace of gesture become the foundation of her tactile, conceptual artworks.
