About this artwork
In this painting, I explore the delicate boundary between what we reveal to the world and what remains unseen.
The translucent fabric does not fully conceal the face — instead, it creates a subtle distance between the viewer and the inner emotional space of the figure. The eye becomes a point of connection, holding both openness and restraint at the same time.
The composition is divided into two visual territories: a soft illuminated presence and… a darker area that suggests memory, experience, and the hidden layers we carry within ourselves. This darkness is not absence, but part of the story.
Small ornamental marks scattered across the veil resemble traces of memory or quiet inner signals — fragile yet persistent.
This work reflects on vulnerability as a form of strength, and on the space that exists between exposure and protection.
Dariia Tsenzeria, a Ukrainian-born artist now based in the Netherlands, masterfully blends painting, photography, sculpture, and digital techniques, rooted in classical training from Grekov Art School. She forges an evocative style combining realism with surreal and symbolic elements, layering textures and light to build intimate, introspective worlds where inner and outer realities intertwine. Her works radiate vulnerability, memory, and transformation, inviting viewers into spaces of reflection, healing, and deeply felt human connection.
