About this artwork
In “The Cap de Creus Lighthouse,” I wanted to construct a landscape without representing it literally. It is not an image of the lighthouse as we would see it there, but a more essential interpretation of the place, its light, its structure, and the sensations conveyed by that extreme point of the Catalan coast.
The composition is organized into geometric planes and blocks of color that interact with each other. Blues predominate in varying intensities,… from the deepest to the brightest turquoises. For me, these blues represent the Mediterranean and the sky surrounding Cap de Creus, but also the wind, the distance, and the sense of open horizon that one perceives in that landscape.
The white appears as a large, curved form that introduces a visual pause within the structure. It is a form that might evoke the pale rock, the intense light that strikes the coast, or even the silent presence of the lighthouse dominating the landscape.
