About this artwork
An abstraction inspired by the geometry, shapes, forms and energy of urban centres. The painting is not so much about one particular city, area or street--it is more an essence or archetype of the idea of "urban-ness". Tycho created this painting by first digitally combining a photo of a city street with a photo of one of his urban paintings done some time previously. The unique digital image was then used as a starting point from which this painting… developed and evolved. David allows chance and subconscious whims and inclinations to steer the painting in unplanned directions. The end result is an expressionistic abstraction rather than a descriptive illustration. The viewer is invited to interpret the image in their own way.
« My goal is to create a compelling and dynamic image that resonates in the viewer, stated in as few brush strokes as necessary »
David Tycho is a prize-winning Canadian artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in the United States, Switzerland, Belgium, and Singapore. His art is distinguished by the exploration of varying subjects and differing artistic approaches. Inspired to create from nature, urban expansion, and the people he encounters, Tycho translates these influences onto canvas in an improvisational, expressive, and abstract manner. He paints using acrylics with brushes, palette knives, trowels, sticks, and rollers.
