About this artwork

An abstraction inspired by the shapes, forms and energy of urban centres such as New York, Paris, London and Tokyo. That said, the painting is not so much about one particular city, area or street--it is more an essence or archetype of the idea of "urban-ness". David allows chance and subconscious whims and inclinations to improvise within a theme. The process can only be described as spontaneous and intuitive, and the end result is an expressionistic… abstraction rather than a descriptive illustration. The viewer is invited to interpret the image in their own way. The work is painted on deep, exhibition canvas, and the sides are painted black. A frame is not necessary.

David Tycho is a prize-winning Canadian artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in the United States, Switzerland, Belgium, and Singapore. His art is distinguished by the exploration of varying subjects and differing artistic approaches. Inspired to create from nature, urban expansion, and the people he encounters, Tycho translates these influences onto canvas in an improvisational, expressive, and abstract manner. He paints using acrylics with brushes, palette knives, trowels, sticks, and rollers.
