About this artwork
New York pulsates and vibrates with the sights and sounds of traffic, pedestrians, streets, buildings and lights, all working together to create a visual and auditory experience of great complexity. New York streets exude dynamism and energy, and it's no surprise that certain genres of jazz were born in New York, and are characterized by fast and complex improvisational soloing superimposed upon a loose underlying structure. Tycho captures the spirit… of NYC by using a colourful palette, and applying the paint in a rapid, expressionistic, and improvisational manner. The result is more of a visual experience and a feeling than a detailed and precise depiction of a city street. In Tycho's mind, art is more about feeling than realistic rendering.
The sides are painted black, and the artwork arrives ready to hang.
« My goal is to create a compelling and dynamic image that resonates in the viewer, stated in as few brush strokes as necessary »
David Tycho is a prize-winning Canadian artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in the United States, Switzerland, Belgium, and Singapore. His art is distinguished by the exploration of varying subjects and differing artistic approaches. Inspired to create from nature, urban expansion, and the people he encounters, Tycho translates these influences onto canvas in an improvisational, expressive, and abstract manner. He paints using acrylics with brushes, palette knives, trowels, sticks, and rollers.
