About this artwork
During Tycho’s extensive camping, hiking and cycling trips through the western provinces and states of North America, he has visited virtually every region, climate, and biome: from lush coastal rain forests and alpine meadows, to dry interior steppes and parched desert basins.
This painting is part of a series that is a creative response to this diverse region. With natural forms and colours in mind, he approaches an empty canvas as an arena of… sorts, where external and internal forces coalesce. The resulting works range from more representational renderings of the natural environment, to total abstractions where accurate representation succumbs to intuitive aesthetic impulses, while maintaining the essence or spirit of the landscape.

David Tycho is a prize-winning Canadian artist whose paintings have been widely exhibited on a national level, as well as in the United States, Switzerland, Belgium, and Singapore. His art is distinguished by the exploration of varying subjects and differing artistic approaches. Inspired to create from nature, urban expansion, and the people he encounters, Tycho translates these influences onto canvas in an improvisational, expressive, and abstract manner. He paints using acrylics with brushes, palette knives, trowels, sticks, and rollers.
