About this artwork
In this work, I explore the roots of my own existence. I use acrylics and glow-in-the-dark paints on a fleece surface to capture a moment of becoming—where darkness and light merge. The spiral form, to me, symbolizes both birth and return.
I design my works to offer three different experiences: in daylight, they reveal one appearance; under UV light, they transform into another dimension; and in complete darkness, they come alive with their own glow.… Through this triple effect, I aim to create a dynamic, multi-layered depth that mirrors the constant transformation I see in life itself.
My artistic journey began in the kitchen. While working as a sous chef in Oxford’s rosette-awarded restaurants, I discovered the meditative beauty of handcrafting and the transformation of raw materials. When the pandemic closed the restaurants, I turned fully toward art and found a way to reflect myself and my visions through creation.
Philosophy has always been close to me, and it deeply influences my practice. In my works, I explore themes such as the universe, existence, femininity, and the contrasts of nature. I use materials like acrylics, spray paint, pastels, wool, wood, and glow-in-the-dark pigments to create multi-layered compositions. With glow-in-the-dark paints, I invite viewers into three experiences of the same artwork: in daylight, under UV light, and in complete darkness.
