About this artwork
Terracotta Sands 2 is part of my Marrakesh series focusing on the iconic colours and patterns of this ancient city in Morocco. The historical quarters of these African desert towns are a sensual experience of colour, energy and movement, with maze-like alleys winding through the marketplaces, where vendors sell traditional textiles, pottery, spices and jewellery.
I have mixed a variety of desert colours for use in these paintings: ochres, terracotta’s,… pinks, and browns, plus a selection of oxide, to create the effect of moving through this unique landscape.
