The word “Tribal” contains the English term “Tribe”, which means “trunk”. To be precise: “Ethnic tribe”. And this is exactly where the origin of tribal tattoos lies. In which peoples the tribals originated cannot be clearly determined. What is certain, however, is that the style refers to ancient island peoples (Maori, Polynesians… or Samoans). The different theories have one thing in common: The tribals were a sign of belonging to a certain tribe.
