I am studying the topic of human psychological balance in the modern world. The Antifragility series consists of digital paintings and art objects. I was inspired by the book "Antifragility. How to profit from Chaos" by Nassim Taleb. The concept of "Antifragility" refers to the ability of an individual or a system not only to withstand unpredictable and destructive events, but also to become stronger and better as a result. Art objects consisting… of droplets with their tips hidden in the base refer to the image of "Ruppert's droplets," which is based on the principle of paradox. When molten glass enters a water tank, its surface quickly cools down, instantly forming a solidified shell around the liquid inside. The inner core contracts strongly, creating an incredible tension within the droplet. These are frozen droplets of tempered glass with extremely high internal mechanical tension. By hiding the vulnerable tips in the base, I have made this art object metaphorically anti-fragile.
Elena Mitina, with formal training in interior and graphic design, embraces painting and mixed media, including, glass, epoxy, resin and other materials. Her inventive techniques blend contemporary design sensibilities with art-object experimentation, often radiating a luminous, almost fairy-tale clarity. Mitina’s art invites viewers to pause and reflect, gently soothing their anxieties while exploring the profound search for psychological balance and inner resilience.
