The land of liberty, the land of endless opportunities. The land of materialism and consumerism. There’s always two sides of a coin (pun intended) and not everything that shines is gold.
On the one hand, technological innovation and economic growth have brought a lot of good for humanity. Progress, jobs, access to products and technologies. On the other hand, big companies often prioritize profit over sustainability, income equality and ethical responsibility.… Balancing success and responsibility doesn’t always work out.
With this painting I wanted to cartoon this dilemma a little bit. You can see the brand labels that everyone knows (and loves). And then we also have politics, symbolized by the statue of liberty. We love our favorite brands, maybe we also like certain politicians… but deep down we know it’s not all just what it appears to be. But what can we do? Daisy Liberty’s book says “It is what it is”. And if you look closely, you might find a hidden message… ;)
Elias Neuhann, an accomplished painter with a background in Fine Arts and Furniture Design, deftly employs spray paint and acrylics, often incorporating air rifles and paint-filled balloons. His technique manifests as chaos in the backgrounds juxtaposed with clear, crisp foreground characters, symbolizing the tension between disarray and order. His works radiate a vibrant appeal while critiquing societal norms, challenging viewers to reflect amidst their aesthetic engagement.
