About this artwork
It was a late evening when I passed an old, dented metal fence — the kind you never really look at. Yet under the pale yellow light it seemed alive, quietly breathing. The colours shifted on its surface — rust, stains, scratches like brushstrokes. I stopped, watching.
It wasn’t a good day. I was walking through the industrial outskirts of Warsaw, drained and silent, when that fence caught my eye. It’s strange how beauty hides in neglected places… — in walls, fences, and fragments that simply endure. Sometimes meaning lives in what stays unseen until someone decides to look closer.
Exhibited at the Master of Arts Degree show “Endurlings. The End of the City” (2025), Gallery Bacalarte, Warsaw, and “5 Years After the Diploma” (2025), A10 Gallery, Lublin.
Eliza Kołodziej is a Polish painter and textile artist with a rich background in traditional crafts, painting and artistic tapestry, trained at top academies and influenced by nature and industrial landscapes. She masterfully employs oil on canvas and weaving, using expressive, sometimes precise brushwork and optical illusions, blending studio and plein-air techniques to poetically transform everyday scenes into visual stories. Her art conveys deep emotional resonance—inviting viewers to rediscover wonder, tenderness, nostalgia and a gentle examination of loneliness and longing in the overlooked corners of the world.
