About this artwork
"The Dream Map" is the unifying work of my dream cycle from 2011.
In this single vertical composition, I capture the path I took back then, through four inner dream gateways, in just a few weeks.
For me, the call of the dream begins at the top – the first impulse that drew me into this world.
Beneath this lies the world of symbols, in which I began to understand how dreams speak.
Further down, the images flow freely, without resistance, like… a stream of pure perception.
And at the bottom edge, the woven thread of my inner knowledge is revealed – the moment when everything connects and clarity emerges.
This work is, for me, a visual map of a rapid, profound inner breakthrough.
I have condensed my personal dream path into a single image here.

Ellen Frischbutter is a trained psychologist whose artistic path gradually became central to her practice. Her early work with mandalas explored non-verbal expression and intuitive perception, forming the basis of her visual language.
She later turned fully to painting, working with watercolor, acrylic, and finally oil, which allowed her to develop layered surfaces and spatial depth. The process of building a painting in visible strata remains essential to her approach.
Her works arise from inner imagery, memory fragments, and atmosphere rather than direct narration. Figurative elements often merge with expressive abstraction, creating open compositions that invite interpretation.
