About this artwork
A hunter has killed many animals. He proudly sits atop this pile. Various exotic animals, such as tigers, antelopes, wild boars, buffalo, cheetahs, and bears, are piled up. The hunter is surrounded by a vast landscape of water lilies, which appears kitschy and catapults the situation into an unrealistic setting. The image addresses hunting tourism, where people pay money to be allowed to kill animals. The image is reminiscent of the traditional presentation… photo that hunters take when the hunted animal is dead.
Ellen Semen, a versatile artist, studied painting and intermedia design in Stuttgart, Moscow, and Marseille. She now lives in Vienna and Croatia. Her colorful, reflective paintings are representational and often characterized by collage techniques, influenced by themes such as war, nature, the environment, and, more recently, artificial intelligence. Her works are inspired by current events and the wonders of nature. They convey a deep admiration for the world and the ability to recognize beauty in all facets of life.
