About this artwork
This painting was one of the first of the serie where I worked from sculpture references—mostly pulled from old encyclopedias and magazines.
My main fascination with using sculptural images was preserving the lively dynamism of the brushstrokes while staying as faithful as possible to the visual source.
It felt a little like carving volume directly out of the canvas itself.
