About this artwork
The painting in question offers the viewer the image of a rose that has now lost its freshness and vitality. The petals, once lush and colorful, now appear withered and fragile, an unmistakable sign of time having passed. This rose, devoid of life and vigor, has been fixed to the wall with simple adhesive tape, almost as if to immobilize it in time and space. The chromatic contrast present in the painting is a key element: the edge, which frames… the entire composition, is painted in a bright and luminous red, a light red that immediately captures the attention. This vibrant edge stands in stark contrast to the more delicate and soft tones that characterize the rest of the painting, where the dried rose occupies a central, almost melancholic place, in its state of decay. The choice of such an intense red for the edge serves to enhance, by opposition, the fragility and transience of the beauty represented by the now dried rose.
Emanuela De Petrillo, artist and graphic designer, mainly uses watercolor and oil painting. She prefers the technique of oil painting with base and other layers, mixing graphic skills with freehand drawing. Her works, imbued with wind and freedom, tell emotions and offer a taste of delicacy, between floral blooms and the changeability of the sea.
