About this artwork
From my workspace window, I look out into this Berlin Hof—a quiet courtyard enclosed by buildings that have stood for over a century. Their facades catch the shifting light of day, from soft morning blue to the dim glow of evening windows. I paint them often, not just for their shapes or colors, but for the invisible weight they hold. These walls have seen too much—lives lived, lost, hidden, betrayed. The past here isn’t buried; it clings to the… brickwork.
There’s a strange comfort in watching time move like this—one day into the next, the light subtly changing, the seasons pressing forward. But there’s also a deep, sad anxiety. With all we’ve endured and all we should have learned, there’s still this unsettling sense that history could repeat itself. We tell ourselves we’ve moved on, evolved—but sometimes it feels like the same mistakes hover just below the surface, waiting.
These are still moments in a city that remembers. And from my window, I keep watching.
