About this artwork
In this oil painting, I wanted to capture the essence of Otranto, the city where the East meets Salento. I didn't use photographs: I painted from memory the nostalgia of a Mediterranean afternoon, when the light is so strong it stops time. I sought the sublime quiet of those corners of everyday life that are steeped in history.
I used vibrant colors and bold lines because I wanted the canvas to convey the warmth of the white stone and the embrace… of the sun. For me, this work is more than just a landscape; it's a piece of family memory that transforms every room into a haven of light. Whoever chooses this painting brings home the warm energy of the South and the beauty of a land reminiscent of the sea and ancient legends. It's my tribute to Italy's easternmost city, where every alleyway has a story to tell.
« As a self-taught, I always push myself further without specific techniques but working on instinct. »
Enzo Martano is an Italian expressionist artist whose paintings transform the Mediterranean landscape into images charged with memory and atmosphere. Through instinctive brushstrokes, vibrant light, and intense texture, places become reflections of the soul. Alongside landscapes, he develops portraits and figures as emotional presences, extensions of the same territorial imagery. Award-winning and featured in the Atlas of Contemporary Art – Giunti Editore, he creates unique oil on canvas works, characterized by a strong authorial identity and an evocative contemporary language.
