About this artwork
Indian Summer is an exploration of that fleeting, golden pause between seasons—where the heat of the sun refuses to fade and the colors of the earth reach a fever pitch. This piece isn't just a landscape; it’s a sensory map of memory and warmth.
I leaned into a high-contrast dialogue between cooling lavenders and scorching ochres. The pops of neon green and deep magenta represent the "last stand" of summer’s vitality before the quiet descent of autumn.…
This painting is about intensity. It captures that specific feeling of an afternoon that feels like it could last forever, even though you know the first frost is just around the corner. It’s a celebration of the "extra" time we get—the bonus heat, the deeper shadows, and the final, brilliant flare of the sun.
I wanted to create something that felt less like a picture and more like a feeling—the kind of warmth that stays on your skin even after you’ve walked inside.
Erika Petruliene, a self-taught painter with international exhibition experience, primarily uses acrylics but freely experiments with mixed media. Her abstract works feature living mosaics—boldly colored, interlocking fields animated by a singular, meandering pathway, guiding viewers through dynamic textures and gentle, meditative spaces. She evokes a vivid emotional journey, channeling both chaos and calm, creating art that invites viewers to explore inner and outer worlds through color and form.
