About this artwork
I often observed fires behind iron frames at the homes of old farmers in Ireland while talking with them. The embers glowed with irregular flickering between the "metal fingers." The air above the embers swirled, creating a calming scene in a repeating rhythm. It was this atmosphere of boundless serenity that I wanted to capture in this painting.
