About this artwork
This painting was created in response to the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria in February 2023. The fractured forms and sharp geometric lines symbolize destruction and loss, while the vivid colors represent resilience and hope rising from the ruins. Through contrast and reflection, I sought to express that even amid cracks and chaos, light endures, a reminder of humanity’s strength to rebuild and the enduring spirit of renewal… after tragedy.
Essie Ince is a Canadian painter who transitioned from a finance career to art, honing her craft under Dr. Nilufar Moayeri and through advanced studies in Florence. She masterfully blends acrylics and mixed media, fusing realism with abstraction and skillfully layering glazes, textures, and contrasts between matte and gloss. Her works, often inspired by vintage cars and memory fragments, evoke dreamlike nostalgia and poetic reflections on time. She strives to elicit a sense of connection, inviting viewers to find beauty, pause, and reflect on their own memories and fleeting joys of life.
