About this artwork
2025 is the year of snake. My interpretation of Haebando is influenced by the diverse cultural background in which I grew up, blending tradition and modernity, East and West, into a richly layered world. The background of my artwork features waves rippling like the ocean, while the peach tree extends its winding branches, exuding energy. The peaches hanging from the branches are large and luscious, reminiscent of a young girl's round, white face…
with rosy cheeks. A sleek, blue snake with shimmering eyes is drawn to the fragrance of the ripe, red peaches. The snake, symbolizing vitality, immortality, and abundance, carries profound significance. It is also interpreted as a calm, rational creature representing wisdom and insight. Inspired by traditional Haebando paintings, I have reimagined it with my own artistic reinterpretation. Eury (Yeahgean) Kim is an award-winning painter who grew up in Australia and now resides in South Korea. She has displayed her works in Belgium, China, Singapore and South Korea. Kim’s dreamlike imagery evokes a hidden and poetic atmosphere. Using techniques from both Eastern and Western artistic traditions, she employs acrylics, oils, mother of pearls on canvas, wood, and various objects in her pieces.
