About this artwork
The most well-known story of an unplanned pregnancy is probably one that comes from the New Testament, with the Annunciation to Mary by the angel Gabriel. A 14-year-old unmarried girl bravely says 'yes', knowing full well that an unmarried pregnancy was punishable by death at the time. And even after conception, a lot is demanded of her as a mother: an arduous journey shortly before the due date, a birth between animals and their excrement, the flight… to Egypt and then the cruel murder of her son, but also his resurrection.
Nevertheless, she remains confident in God and sees her son as a gift, even though she knows from the prophecies of the Old Testament what awaits her and her child.
The picture is an encouragement for all women who are expecting a child and for all those who are looking for modern sacred art for their home.
Eva Stauber is a mixed media artist with a background in art education and a master's degree. She passionately experiments with different painting media and intuitively combines alcohol inks, acrylic and oil in her works. Her works address womanhood and are an expression of social challenges that women have to face. Eva's pictures are characterized by honesty and courage; they encourage and remind women of their strength.
