About this artwork
Artist Statement: Ode to George Floyd
This painting, Ode to George Floyd, is a visual tribute to a man whose life was taken unjustly, sparking a global movement for justice and human rights. Through bold colors, layered textures, and expressive strokes, I sought to capture both the weight of loss and the powerful outpouring of humanity that filled the streets in protest. The dark outline represents the presence of George Floyd—his spirit, his story,… and the impact of his final moments. The splashes of red, pink, and blue symbolize the intensity of grief, resilience, and the collective voices that rose in solidarity. The bursts of yellow offer a glimmer of hope, a reminder that from tragedy can come transformation, awareness, and change. This piece is not just about one man but about a movement—about the voices that refuse to be silenced and the fight for justice that continues. It is my way of honoring Floyd’s memory and standing with those who demand more justice and compassion.
Eve Brownstone, a trained expressive arts therapist, uses her life and work to marry therapy and visual art. Favoring spontaneity and flow, her style embraces abstract techniques, letting the magic arise organically from the creative mess. This approach expresses self-compassion, acceptance, forgiveness, and the beautiful process of letting go.
