About this artwork
In crafting this piece, I dove into the realm of impressionism and figurative expression, using oil to bring to life the haunting beauty of fleeting memories. The central figure, a woman adorned in a bow-tied dress and straw hat, sits enveloped by a swirl of dreamy, almost vanishing floral elements, symbolizing both the persistence and decay of past experiences. This artwork speaks to the bittersweet tangibility of recollection, inviting viewers… to ponder their own moments of nostalgia and time's relentless march. It's meant to evoke a sense of serene contemplation and wistful longing in any space it inhabits.
This is another portrait of Pauline, my husband's grandmother, who is sitting on the trunk of a fallen tree in a very nice dress in the photo.
She clearly wanted to be remembered since I came across many photos of her in fine dress, alone in the countryside.
Raised with a sketchbook, Evy Olsen Halvorsen expresses herself through paint, both oil and encaustic. She begins with impromptu, abstract patterns and colors, gently coaxing them into subjects marked by time. Rewinding memories like worn film reels, her works vividly reincarnate people from the past, eliciting a sense of nostalgic longing.
