About this artwork
Diptych "So Close To Heaven" is a story of dreams, longings and expectations that always inspire me to carry on in life. To have the goal in sight and always pursue it. To give yourself new courage, to see everything positively, a little through rose-tinted glasses. I have shown that this is not easy with different shapes and collage fragments that penetrate each other. The labyrinth of events and thoughts is also painted with light pink, pink and… small dabs of turquoise. On the surface you can find fine, dynamic lines that give the paintings beautiful plasticity. Framed in a wool-white shadow gap.
Ewa Martens is a versatile artist known for her intuitive and experimental approach to abstract art. Using acrylic paints, texture pastes, inks, fabrics, and other materials, she creates a lively, spontaneous dialogue on canvas—playful yet precise.
Three key moments have shaped her artistic career: a monumental commission for the Miniaturland in Leer with a work over 10 meters wide; a major solo exhibition in 2018 at the Bremen Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians with 91 abstract works spread over three floors; and the invitation to participate in the 2023 Florence Biennale – a significant international recognition of her work.
Her works evoke strong emotional responses and leave room for infinite interpretations. Her art is both a journey into the unknown and an expression of her inner life—visionary, dynamic, and always open to new challenges on an international level.
