About this artwork
This painting explores African identity through a fragmented portrait that symbolizes the layered histories, resilience, and evolving narratives of the African experience.
The face is constructed from geometric fragments, representing the idea that identity is shaped by multiple cultural, historical, and personal elements that come together to form a unified whole.
The gold rings encircling the neck reference Ghana’s historic relationship with… gold, recalling the legacy of the former Gold Coast. Beyond material wealth, the gold symbolizes dignity, strength, and the richness of African heritage.
Surrounding the figure are Adinkra symbols, traditional Akan visual motifs from Ghana that communicate philosophical ideas, wisdom, and moral values. These symbols represent the deep cultural knowledge embedded in Ghanaian traditions and serve as a visual language connecting past and present.

Her paintings are rooted in introspection, examining how internal narratives shape emotional experience and influence the way we engage with the world. Each piece functions as a psychological landscape, where light and darkness, clarity and distortion, exist in dynamic tension. Color plays a central role—not only as a visual element, but as a symbolic expression of energy, resilience, and transformation. Drawing from personal reflection and subtle cultural influences, her work speaks to themes of strength, identity, and inner evolution. The fragmented figures within her compositions suggest both vulnerability and reconstruction, reflecting the ongoing process of becoming..
