About this artwork
"Carousel of Life" from the Red Strokes Series is a dynamic image that draws the viewer into a swirling motion. Red lines form circular structures reminiscent of a spinning top or a rotating Saturn disk, occupying the center of the work. Within these circular forms, human-like stick figures emerge, seemingly standing in an endless cycle, mutually dependent and interlocking, almost like gears.
Different textures alternate, making the surface of… the depicted fantasy landscape almost tangible. Smooth surfaces and rougher, organically shaped areas give the work a multi-layered appearance. The surreal, almost naive combination of forms and figures underscores the theme of the life cycle, in which order and chaos, structure and freedom intertwine and overlap.
Fabian Ling is an artist who has found a permanent place in contemporary art with his unmistakable style. His work is less about holding on to clear forms and more about exploring the spaces in between—visually and emotionally. His works move skillfully between abstraction and figuration. His gestural brushstrokes and multi-layered compositions reflect his deep engagement with the unknown, always searching for the tension between reality and imagination.
