Oil on canvas painting of a shoe shiner’s hands at work—rag wrapped tight around the fingers, polish worked into the leather with practiced, circular motion. The cloth is worn, slightly frayed, but clearly trusted.
The contrast between the softness of the rag and the firmness of the gesture, the gradual transformation from dull to deep gloss. I tried to capture that moment where effort becomes visible.
The light is warm —tinged with reddish-brown… and orange tones that wrap around the scene and settle into the leather. It’s a small corner of a shop, easy to overlook, but slow it down and it’s all about rhythm, attention and knowing when to stop. A quiet tribute to a craft where the final shine says everything without a word.
