About this artwork
“Barefoot and Almost in Love”, by Flavia Birsan, is a reflection on the quiet beginnings of connection—the early warmth, the unsure steps, the comfort of being yourself. It captures that in-between space where curiosity, tenderness, and presence take shape before certainty sets in.
This piece is built from layered whites, soft ochres, coral reds, and mint blues, framed by expressive, raw edges. The surface holds traces of change—scratches, subtle… marks, and shifts in texture that echo the evolution of thought and feeling. Originally considered finished, it returned to the studio for a half-day of rebalancing, fine-tuning until the composition felt fully alive.
“Barefoot and Almost in Love” invites the viewer into a moment of openness, where nothing is rushed and every mark counts—a quiet, grounded kind of vulnerability.
