About this artwork
“Freedom Feels Like This” reflects Flavia Birsan’s ongoing exploration of ease, openness, and the quiet emotional states that surface while painting. Created during a period of reflection on what freedom can feel like in everyday life, the work embraces the idea that freedom is not always loud or dramatic—it can be warm, soft, a little messy and beautifully alive.
The painting unfolds in layered shades of sunlit orange, dusty rose, and soft coral,… anchored by a vertical turquoise gesture that brings clarity and structure. Small accents of neon pink, ochre, and charcoal add rhythm and motion, while subtle veils and scraped-back textures reveal the history beneath. Each decision was made intuitively, allowing the composition to grow organically, one gesture leading to the next.
The title arose naturally from the process, echoing the moments in the studio when color and movement aligned with an inner sense of spaciousness—when painting became a form of freedom itself.
