About this artwork
This work is a work-in-progress for my Babel project. It comes before the performance. It's a time when I search, when I test, when I lay the foundations.
I work here in layers. I add, I erase, I cover. Forms appear, disappear, then reappear in a different way. You can see fragments of a city, structures, or simply traces in the process of construction.
The white lines give an impression of organization, as if everything could fall into place.… But the material, the drips, the textures disrupt this order. There is a balance between control and letting go.
Around them, the signs and writings are not meant to be read. They are forms, rhythms, a way of making language exist differently.
Color is important. Blue takes up a lot of space, it opens up the area. Reds and ochres bring warmth, texture, something more vibrant.

Frédéric Haire is an artist based in France whose paintings have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions nationally. Fascinated by the universality of cities and the symbols they convey, his urbanscapes and calligraphy series conveys "the energy expelled from the Yang, contained in the Yin". Beginning with photographs, the proportion between buildings and humans is always meaningful for Haire. He creates a more graphic and interpreted universe, to distance from reality.
