About this artwork
At the heart of this inverted well of Babel, the concrete rises in concentric circles toward an eye of light, as if the builders had wanted to pierce the sky with a vertical tunnel. The perfect geometry of these rings evokes some forgotten Mayan temple, but it is here that steam, and not prayers, rose toward the clouds. Time has patinated the walls of this industrial cathedral where the echo of dead turbines still resonates. Only the sky, a fragment…
of perfect blue, continues to inhabit this place where man played at taming the elements.
