The saltwater marshland of Lowcountry South Carolina is an amazing ecosystem where ocean tides rise and fall 8 feet, two times per day. The "Pluff Mud," is the product of decaying spartina grasses, which feed oysters, shrimp, and clams. These, in turn, are food for dolphin, sting rays, fish, sharks, and sea birds, who mature and go to sea.
