There is a fire down below. In a place - the Underworld - that’s been associated with fire, darkness, and suffering; a place of ending. Parhelion sees it as the realm where everything begins - or rather where nothing begins or ends, which every artist mines and where every artist dwells. Part of The Imagination. We come from there and when we deny it, or try to shut ourselves off from it, we bank those fires. Sooner or later they detonate, they explode…
anew, and primeval nigh-forgotten structures of the heart and soul break loose and fight to the surface to live again. We live again.

Fred Phillips, also known as Parhelion, is a painter based in Barbados whose works highlight the act of creation itself as the ultimate message.
