About this artwork
From 2016 to 2019 the artist painted the "Cycle Zero". These are self-portraits of important painters, all enlarged in acrylic on canvas on a double stretcher frame 80 x 100 x 4 cm. With this enlargement of all self-portraits and the use of acrylic on canvas, all portraits were treated equally. In this way, a conscious, desired alienation was achieved.
The artist contrasted this generalization with his modern interpretation of self-portraits as… an Expressionist. This comparison results in a special field of tension. Beginning with Jan van Eyck around 1433 to Picasso around 1907, these portraits with their translations show an outline of around 500 years of modern art history.
« My work on canvas should arouse feelings in the viewer. Then my work has achieved its goal. »
