About this artwork
Athos Bulcão is a silent national hero of Brazil. Many of Oscar Niemeyer's architectural icons would not be as good without his contribution, but hardly anyone outside the country knows him. One of the main occupations of the artist and designer Bulcão, who died in 2008, was tile reliefs and large-format murals.
In his works he uses the principles of Concrete Art, but also goes further in his own interpretations. His works are a source of inspiration… for me. With the painting "Homage to Athos Bulcão" I adopt his graphic concepts, using my own color palette when painting.
« My art consists of thought concepts. These are freed from the object until I express them, precisely organized and composed using lines, surfaces, and colors, specifically on canvas. »
Gabriele Fuchs is a Germany-based artist whose paintings have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Austria, Brazil, and Portugal. Inspired by the contemplation of nature and spirituality, her works are the result of deep reflection on a specific subject. Fuchs uses mathematical and calculated precision in her artistic process, based on Fibonacci numbers and the Golden Ratio, as well as Johannes Itten's color theory.
