About this artwork
Here I have depicted the shallow waters of the stony shoreline of Lake Constance, with a view of the atmospherically blue, wooded bank in the background beyond the water's surface. I have placed a large stone in the foreground, the focal point of the image. This stone, nestled against smaller stones to its right, remains on dry land, drawing the eye across the water into the distance. To the left of the large stone, the shallow water zone begins,… with its interplay of submerged stones and reflections from the gently rippling water. This creates interesting distortions and a beautiful play of colors. Various shades of blue are visible, contrasted by small, earthy patches. The interplay between the dynamic foreground and the tranquil background brings the image to life. It is intended to capture a contemplative and intimate moment, one that can be experienced in your own home.
Gabriele Kübler-Mohr is a painter and draftswoman with a solid academic background, primarily working in pastels, watercolors, charcoal, and ink, and has worked as an art educator for many years. Her technique ranges from quick, gestural strokes to finely detailed modulations; her style oscillates between reality, abstraction, and painterly alienation. Her works reflect the vibrancy and essence of nature and deeply touch the viewer—she strives to make the existential elixir of life and the uniqueness of every detail tangible.
