About this artwork
In this work, I wanted to explore internal duality and the window to the soul. The oil painting technique allowed me to capture the skin realistically, while the surreality of the faces and windows invites us to reflect on the many facets we all carry within. It speaks to the fear of revealing ourselves; the reference to the dark forest in the background is, in a way, our hiding place.
Its energy envelops the space with mystery and depth, awakening… curiosity and emotional connection.
Gema Álvaro is an artist with a strong background in art history and conservation, who primarily works in painting, drawing, and illustration. Her techniques range from a dreamlike, elegant, and fanciful universe, with historicist reminiscences, a devotion to nature and animals, and a fondness for the dialogue between past and present. Her works convey beauty, honesty, and a deep emotional connection, inviting introspection and an intimate encounter with the characters and animals she portrays.
