About this artwork
"Escape" is a painting from the "Time of Fear" series, created in the context of the 2015/2016 refugee crisis in Austria. The series is an artistic commentary on uprooting, the indignity suffered, but also on humanistic hope. For the meaning of humanity may lie in the recognition of good and evil—a humanism that we all too often overlook, yet which is crucial to our collective experience.
German Pizzinini works as a painter, draftsman, and sculptor, specializing in oil painting and sculpture, and brings extensive training in art, architecture, and metalworking. He combines figurative motifs with expressive, sometimes abstract elements, creating strong contrasts of light, shadow, and color; his works blend tradition and modernity. His art reflects social realities and conveys hope and vitality—even in the face of destruction and suffering. His works have been exhibited throughout Europe—including in Munich, Berlin, London, Moscow, Vienna, Krems, Baden, Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Köflach.
